    Description

You say you can't find good, authentic danced African masks on eBay anymore? I am slowly dispersing selections from a 40-year accumulation while awaiting the auctioning of my whole collection. This Do Society mask from the Ligbi, stylistically related to Senufo Kpelie masks, is from the Bondoukou region of Ivory Coast and was definitely used in masquerades.
IT RETAINS ITS ORIGINAL BITE STICK! Additionally, there is an old rubber strap to fit around the wearers head that is most likely cut from an inner tube. The attachment holes are very worn. The inside shows much evidence of wear. The face is finely detailed and shows exemplary skill in carving, grace is conception. This is a beautifully designed and superbly realized artifact of considerable age, at least mid-20th century. It shows a dull gloss from handling and has vestigial kaolin accents. Worthy of an outstanding collection. Unless you count the deformation of attachments holes from use as damage (and who would?), it is in perfect condition. Made from a single piece of wood, including the sleek horns, it is 13 5/8" x 7" x 4 3/4".
IF YOU PURCHASE THIS BETWEEN 7/18 AND 7/23 PLEASE BE AWARE THAT SHIPPING WILL BE DELAYED UNTIL THE NEXT WEEK. ALSO, I CAN'T ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT IT THAT WEEK. U.S. bidders please, [Boston Primitive]
