This is a gorgeous, hand crafted, mahogany African art mask that was acquired by my parents sometime in the 1970s. The mahogany wood is beautiful, solid, and deceptively heavy. It has a dark cast with a warm undertones and feels delightful and smooth to the touch, seeming almost to have a kind of joss about it.
It is just over 11 inches tall, and is just under 3 inches wide. The pictures show it from several angles in an attempt to capture the lovely tone of the wood.
For many years, it hung on a wall, but it has been carefully stored for the last decade. It's just a fantastic piece, with a glow and feel that surpass modern examples of the art.
