With access to antiquity auctions and museum curators across Western and Southern Africa, we do our ultimate best to secure only genuine tribal masks and provide information that is well researched by our curators in determining origin, culture, and age. We examine our pieces thoroughly and do our best to photograph each section of a mask so a buyer/collector can have a full understanding of what they’re purchasing without any surprises. ABOUT TRIBE/MASK
The Dan are a farming people who inhabit the hinterland of western Ivory Coast and Liberia. They have a great number of masked figures who represent spirits of the bush, and fulfill a variety of social, political and religious functions. Dan masks are typically characterized by round eyes (majority of masks), oval shape build, smooth foreheads and a mouth that is usually slightly open. Carved out of wood and decorated with rolled woven cloth, with cowrie shells and Guinea fowl feathers. The Dan people, also known as the Yacuba, have the reputation of being fierce warriors that believe the world is animated by a force called Du.
IMPERFECTIONS
Please note these are traditional/old masks. Imperfections are to be expected such as dings, broken cowrie shells, fabric tears and minor cracks. We do our best to showcase the mask using as many photos as possible. Mask is in excellent condition.
HOW TO DISPLAY MASK
Most African masks require the use of a "Metal V Display Stand". These are great for holding African masks if your intention is to display this on a table top, window bay etc. These are also sold on eBay and would be best to contact a supplier for more information and assistance.
SHIPPING AND RETURNS
We require 3-5 days to process and package each order carefully. All shipping will be made via UPS or FedEx dependent on cost. Our return policy is strictly 14 days from the time you receive your order and confirmed as delivered. All returns are paid by the customer regardless of reason/cause. All returns must be in their original shipped condition.
