    Description

UNDERSTANDING WOOD FIRE BRICK OVEN CEMENT CRACKING
After you have cured your oven and used it a few times, you will notice some hairline cracks developing on the inside and outside of your oven in certain places.  This is completely normal and does not indicate any structural issues.
Our customers use the EuroFlame Crack Repair Kit to keep their ovens looking fresh and protected from harsh elements like rain, snow, and dirt.
It is common to see hairline cracks form at the inset between the bricks on the face of the oven that form the "vent arch".
Another common area where vertical hairline cracks form is inside the dome, often running from the base of the oven toward the dome.
WHAT TO DO ABOUT REGULAR CRACKING?
The EuroFlame Crack Repair Kit is a silicone-based paint-like product made specifically for repairing the outside of refractory cement wood-fired ovens.  We recommend that our customers purchase a Repair Kit with their original order since most cracks appear on an oven during the first 5 uses.
These cracks form because our pizza ovens are built with rigid materials like cement and brick.  When we start a fire in the oven we expose those materials to extreme heat.  This heat causes those materials to expand and also burns up any remaining moisture in those elements (which is the point of
    The Curing Process
).  Once the heat is reduced, the brick and cement contract and harden.  That expansion and contraction of brick and cement is what is causing the cracking.
WHY SHOULD YOU PATCH CRACKS IN YOUR EUROFLAME BRICK OVEN:
Remember, patching cracks is not necessary.  But, there are a few good reasons to patch those cracks:
To keep your white oven dome looking clean and fresh
    If
you intend to paint or tile your dome,
then patching these cracks first is recommended
To protect the cement between the vent arch bricks on the face of the oven
2 STEPS FOR PATCHING CRACKS IN YOUR EUROFLAME WOOD FIRE PIZZA OVEN:
Start a fire in your oven and heat to at least 400 degrees in the back of the oven.  Maintain this temperature for 10 minutes.
Use a paint brush to liberally apply the EuroFlame Repair Kit until the cracks appear to be filled.  Let the oven cool and keep the repair areas dry for at least 24 hours.
