    do muso
    - Dyula / Lorhon / Senufo - Côte d'Ivoire
Gorgeous 20th c. African bronze cast mask in a visage historical to Mande culture. These are generally understood to be cast by Lorhon blacksmiths for the Dyula. It's hard to determine the age of casting on these but this one may have been made from before 1950 to as late as 1980. Rare, fine workmanship extraordinary African art. Much like a very old example in Geneva's Barbier-Mueller Museum. The last photo in the listing references that antique example. A high level of craftsmanship is passed down through generations of African metalsmiths. Each mask is an individual original subject to its own unique qualities and casting flaws. Lost wax cast in Africa FINE BRASS BRONZE AFRICAN MASK in my collection since 1994.
The mask from top edge to bottom is 25cm, the surmounting head with spray headdress adds about 4.5cm for a total length of 29.5cm.
